With the ability to acquire a federal firearms license, individuals and companies are provided with the opportunity to manufacture or sell firearms. Also, a federal firearms license is required for any individual or company who will be conducting business that is remotely related to the manufacturing or selling of firearms. There are a variety of different federal firearms license types ranging from Type 1 to Type 11 and they all permit companies and individuals to participate in various activities.
Type 1
A type 1 federal firearms license is granted to an individual who is a dealer or a gunsmith related to objects other than destructive devices.
Type 2
These particular federal firearms license types are given to individuals who will be doing business while holding the title of pawnbroker.
Type 3
A type 3 firearms license is granted to an individual who is a licensed collector relating to Curio & Relic firearms.
Type 6
For those who are granted type 6 federal firearms license types they must register with the DoS (Department of State) and they must pay a fee of $2,250 per year. The type 6 license is granted to a company or individual who is a manufacturer of reloading pieces and ammunition that falls under any category other than destructive devices and ammunition that has armor piercing capabilities.
Type 7
Much like type 6, those with type 7 federal firearms license types must register with the DoS and pay the $2,250 yearly fee. With a type 7 license individuals can be a firearm and ammunition manufacturer who is provided with the opportunity to be a dealer. Though the individual is not permitted to sell or manufacture destructive devices.
Type 8
Those with type 8 federal firearms license types are provided with the opportunity to import firearms and ammunition.
Type 9
As a more advanced class of federal firearms license types, type 9 individuals are permitted to be firearms dealers including the dealing of destructive devices and ammunition that can pierce armor. If the individual is interested in dealing destructive devices that have exploding content they are required to gather a federal explosives license.
Type 10
Individuals with a type 10 license are permitted to be a firearms manufacturer, an ammunition manufacturer, and a manufacturer of destructive devices. They are also permitted to manufacture the ammunition for destructive devices, ammunition that is armor piercing, and they are also allowed to deal all of the previously mentioned components.
Type 11
An individual or a company with this particular type of license is allowed to import destructive devices, firearms, ammunition, armor piercing ammunition, and the ammunition for destructive devices. They are also permitted to deal the aforementioned components.
